MERCER, Andrew – deceased – After his death
intestate, a lady who had for many years lived with him as his
supposed housekeeper claimed that she was his wife, and her son the
lawful heir to the large property possessed by the deceased in
Toronto and vicinity. The Ontario Government refused to acknowledge
the rights of these parties but, on November 14, 1881, the Supreme
Court of Canada reversed the decision.

shooting herself with a pistol in the store of Mr. F. E. McKeyes, a
man for whom she had declared an ardent affection. The coroner's jury
attritute the cause of her suicide to an unreturned affection for
McKeyes; but exonerate him from blame – (JRO
